RFID cow tracking management in India

Since the "mad cow disease" incident in the UK, food safety issues have become an issue of increasing concern to people around the world. Gujarat is the westernmost state in India and has a high degree of industrialization. However, agriculture, especially dairy farming, still mostly adopts traditional animal husbandry methods, which is relatively backward and cannot meet people's management needs for food safety. In order to improve this situation, the Gujarat government hopes to introduce new technologies into dairy farming and improve the informatization of animal tracking.

  challenge

The traditional cow tracking method cannot effectively record and supervise the feeding status, health status, milk production, etc. of the cows. The safety of the milk produced cannot be guaranteed, which seriously affects market sales.

The traditional management method, the management and rough recording of dairy cows, is mainly done manually, which is not only inefficient, but the authenticity cannot be guaranteed.

The collected information cannot be transmitted, queried and saved in real time, and information tracking is difficult.

  plan

A system integrator in India worked together to develop this cow tracking solution. Based on RFID technology, each cow is equipped with an RFID tag, and a unique 12-digit code is written in the tag, just like an Indian ID Card. Other information can also be written as needed, such as the animal's date of birth, milk production, owner's name, etc., and key information on subsequent rearing, health examinations, milk production, etc. can also be written by scanning the animal tag as a handheld terminal. Input and read, and can be transmitted to the background management system in real time through the wireless network.

Results

Fully considering the needs of users, the R&D department developed a low-frequency extension pole with an antenna, which avoids close contact with animals and allows farmers to accurately read tag information from a safe distance.

The RFID reading speed is fast, the accuracy is high, the animal tracking data is accurate, and the management efficiency is effectively improved.

Real-time data collection, storage and transmission facilitates subsequent analysis and the construction of a complete animal tracking chain. When food safety issues arise, the problem links can be tracked in real time and corresponding strategies can be formulated in a timely manner.
