Hospital Information System RFID Application

Today, with the continuous improvement of the medical system, the degree of informatization of Hospitals has been greatly improved. Now large hospitals have used the Hospital Information System (Hospital information System, referred to as HIS). level of medical services.

However, some problems in the current HIS system cannot be solved fundamentally. For example, when encountering an emergency and facing a patient who must be rescued in time, doctors and nurses must first search for the patient’s case, check the patient’s medical history and drug allergy history, etc. Only when there is important information, can timely rescue be carried out according to the situation, but these will delay the best time to rescue the patient. RFID solves all troubles for you.

When the hospital adopts the RFID system, these problems will be solved. Every hospitalized patient will wear a wristband using RFID technology, which Stores the relevant information of the patient, including basic personal information and important information such as drug allergy history. More detailed information can be mapped to the database through the electronic code on the RFID electronic tag.

In the existing HIS system of the hospital, the basic information of each registered patient has been entered, but this information does not follow the patient all the time. Only the medical staff can check the accurate information of the patient when they go to the computer terminal in the office area. Now, through a simple RFID smart wristband, medical staff can grasp the accurate information of each patient anytime, anywhere.

As can be seen from the figure above, the hospital server stores the patient’s final and complete case, and the RFID handset of each ward doctor can also store the relevant case of the patient in charge, and the handset can accurately read the relevant data on the patient’s wristband. information, and can also write corresponding information, such as: whether the patient is allergic to a certain drug, whether he has had an injection today, whether he has taken medicine today, etc. monitoring information, which greatly improves the efficiency of hospital management of patients. RFID technology can Completely replace the patient information card in front of the existing hospital bed.

In daily medical activities, we do use patient identification all the time, including using bedside identification cards that record the patient's condition, putting patients on hospital gowns, and so on. Hospital staff often use words such as "patient in bed 10, take medicine" to guide patients to receive various treatments. Unfortunately, these methods often cause wrong recognition results, and even cause medical accidents. In fact, we have not really used correct and effective patient identification to reduce medical accidents and improve medical management.

Hospitals should follow the following three basic principles for clear identification of patients: provide accurate patient identification, and the identification is accurate and uniform, covering all relevant departments of the hospital; establish a clear correspondence between patients, medical Files, and various treatment activities; use reliable identification products to ensure that patient identification will not be exchanged or lost.

By using a specially designed patient identification wristband (smart-Wrist), the identification belt marked with the important information of the patient is tied to the patient's wrist for 24-hour personal identification, which can effectively ensure the rapid and accurate identification of the patient at any time. At the same time, the specially designed patient identification belt can prevent it from being replaced or removed, ensuring the uniqueness and correctness of the identification object.

At the same time, we recommend that hospital staff also wear RFID-enabled badges, so that the hospital can not only manage patients, but also find the most needed doctors in emergencies.

Advantages of using RFID:

◆Help doctors or nurses to confirm the identity of patients with communication difficulties.

◆Surveillance and tracking of people who wander into high-risk areas without permission.

◆When medical emergencies, infectious disease epidemics, terrorist threats and other situations pose a threat to the normal and effective work of the hospital, the RFID system can promote the implementation of restrictive measures to prevent unauthorized medical staff, staff and patients from entering and leaving the hospital.

◆The wristband allows hospital administrators to encrypt some data, so that even if the wristband is lost, it cannot be cracked by others.

Application of RFID in mother-infant identification

In addition to the application functions we mentioned above, RFID Wristbands can also be used in many aspects of hospitals, such as mother and child identification.

Who are the patients who cannot express their condition accurately? That's right, a newborn. Newborn babies have similar characteristics and lack of understanding and expressive ability. If they are not effectively identified, they will often cause misidentification. Therefore, it is still important to identify newborns. The mother and the baby are a pair of matches, and there are management loopholes in identifying the baby alone, and it is impossible to prevent malicious artificial exchanges.

At present, there are problems such as mothers holding wrong babies and babies being stolen in hospitals. How to effectively avoid such problems is to add RFID technology to the existing management software, including wristbands, handheld readers, and Access Control systems.

As shown in the figure above, when the nurse leaves with the baby in her arms, the identification information on the baby’s wristband must match the mother’s identification information before she can leave. If the information does not match, the access control system will issue an alarm, which can effectively prevent the baby from being carried by the wrong person.

To prevent babies from being held wrong:

Through the handheld RFID Reader carried by the nurse, read the information in the RFID mother-infant identification belts worn by the mother and the baby respectively, confirm that the identities of the two parties match, and prevent babies who are similar in appearance at birth from being held wrong.

       Baby Proof:

It is necessary to arrange fixed RFID readers at the entrances and exits of each intensive care unit. Every time a nurse and a baby need to pass, by reading the RFID identification card on the nurse and the RFID mother-infant identification belt on the baby, the identity is confirmed and then monitored. The door of the ward can only be opened. At the same time, the identity information of the nurse, the identity information of the baby and the time of entry and exit are recorded in the database. Cooperating with surveillance video, security guards can monitor the situation in key areas at any time.

In addition to greatly reducing the possibility of wrongly holding babies, hospitals can also bring some benefits through RFID wristbands. For example, sell RFID wristbands engraved with names, dates of birth, portraits, etc. to pregnant women.
