The Izmit Municipality in Turkey is responsible for collecting solid waste over an area of more than 1,000 square kilometers and has a dedicated fleet of garbage collection trucks for this purpose. The city has been actively looking for ways to optimize its waste collection operations:
How to ensure timely garbage collection
How to enable real-time tracking
How to optimize routes and save fuel consumption
How to collect data on Assets in use and implement inventory control
How to share information with residents
The municipality chose to work with a Turkish software provider to deploy its management system for waste collection. RFID tags were selected for this project as the hardware part of the system, along with RFID Readers, due to their rugged nature and excellent reliability in this field.
All bins at the project site are equipped with RFID tags, and the trucks are equipped with tag readers to be able to send real-time data to Contain.
The system is designed to collect and process the following key information:
Recycling container usage data
Loading rate and temperature
Create garbage truck routes and alert zones
Notify residents in real time
The system allows for the complete digitization of inventory assets on site and the labeling and management of all containers. Data is now available in real-time in a native digital format, creating new optimized collection routes reduces truck wear and tear, and any collection delays are communicated directly to the operations center for timely notification and adjustments.
Ultimately, the public served by municipalities will also benefit from real-time dynamic information, as they will know when the next garbage collection is.
