European waste management company Compta manages 250,000 bins in Europe alone. The company is considering adding specific features to its solution for municipal and waste collection service companies:

These requirements focus on UHF rewritable tags that will allow high-accuracy reading at a distance. The UHF tag was chosen because it was specifically designed for this type of demanding application.

The garbage collection vehicle is equipped with an RFID Reader connected to the hopper to automatically read the unique electronic tag of the container. The system then associates the container with the GPS location and the customer's information. The solution can also support mobile RFID readers as needed, allowing for a completely flexible configuration.

In turn, other data points collected through the solution can be used to improve operational efficiency. Analysis of usage patterns to help identify local needs and optimize collection routes and schedules accordingly. People and fleet management can also benefit from insights in the form of targeted training, as well as optimization of vehicle scheduling, availability and fuel consumption.
