Air China aircraft cabin carpets and passenger seat covers will incorporate RFID technology

In October this year, according to the "Feasibility Report on Aircraft Carpet and Seat Cover RFID Full Life Service" submitted by the Chengdu Maintenance Base of Air China Engineering Technology Branch, the Engineering Department of the Engineering Technology Branch evaluated its airworthiness and reliability and agreed with the base. Install RFID (passive electronic tags) on aircraft cabin carpets and seat covers, and use carpets and seat covers with RFID on aircraft.

At present, the carpets of the fleet managed by the base have been installed with RFID tags, and the next step will be to install RFID tags on the seat covers. In this way, after RFID tags are attached to carpets and seat covers, the specific location of the parts in the warehouse or on the aircraft and the number of times the parts have been cleaned can be tracked for easy search.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a wireless communication technology that can identify specific targets and read and write related data through radio signals without establishing mechanical or optical contact between the identification system and the specific target. RFID is similar to barcode scanning. For barcode technology, it attaches the encoded barcode to the target and uses a dedicated scanning reader to use optical signals to transmit the information from the bar magnet to the scanning reader; while RFID Use a dedicated RFID Reader and writer and a dedicated RFID tag that can be attached to the target object, and use frequency signals to transmit information from the RFID tag to the RFID reader. RFID is a simple wireless system with only two basic components that is used to control, detect and track objects. The system consists of an interrogator and many transponders.
