Successful RFID clothing management application cases

UGG’s new Store deploys RFID technology to enhance shopping experience

Deckers, a footwear, clothing and accessories company, recently deployed an RFID system at its newly opened UGG store in McLean. The company installed RFID tags on the soles of the shoes so that consumers can view product-related information on the RFID touch screen when trying them on.

The UGG store RFID solution includes a 65-inch high-resolution touch screen equipped with an ultra-high frequency RFID Reader to display shoe styles, color options, videos and other information.

Powers said the company’s goal is to provide consumers with a seamless online shopping experience.

The company installed UHF RFID readers on the floor in front of each touch screen in the store. Staff also attach RFID tags to the shoes and encode them using Zebra UHF RFID printers.

Group Charlie Miller said that the RFID tag installed on the sole of the shoe has a unique ID number, and the tag has built-in information such as product model, size, color and style. When consumers try on shoes in front of the RFID floor, the UHF RFID reader will automatically read the tag ID number and transmit it to the group's software. The software then controls the touch screen to display information about the product.

Consumers can also install touch screen prompts to share these product information through text messages. In this way, whether the consumer has purchased the product or not, he can view the detailed information of the product. Managers can also redesign in-store visual effects and other conveniences based on the data collected by RFID.

Currently, the store is researching other applications of RFID technology. Miller said: "The shoe racks will also use touch screens with built-in UHF RFID readers to display product inventory."

Levi's uses EPC RFID technology to gain competitive advantage

Since 2005, the famous American brand Levi Strauss & Co. has begun to manage its inventory reasonably and accurately, so as to achieve the most efficient operation of inventory management. To this end, Levi's has established an ad hoc working group composed of system structure management, sales, IT management and other departments to conduct in-depth research on the current status of its supply chain, hoping to improve its inventory management by using EPC/UHF RFID technology, thereby improving Overall supply chain efficiency.

Advantages of UHF RFID in the field of clothing management

The investigation found that: the inventory in the store lasted for 4 months or more; the mismatch and inconsistency between the manually calculated inventory and the system calculated inventory was as high as 20%; there were unfinished or incorrect orders; unnecessary products were purchased. This leads to low inventory turnover and excess inventory; inventory reports lack specific information on product models and colors; sales do not match expectations of high inventory.

Levi's has strong operational capabilities in Mexico, so it chose to launch a pilot in Mexico, hoping to reduce inventory for up to 2 months and reduce the percentage of out-of-stocks; it uses EPC/UHF RFID technology to accurately manage the replenishment process, increase sales, and operate In terms of delivery, EPC/RFID technology is fully used in DC (distribution center); EPC/UHF RFID technology is used in loading, sales, returns, exchanges and inventory management. Through the integration of EPC/UHF RFID technology, it was found that: the inventory was reduced from the previous 4 months to 2 months; the manual and system comparison of shelf inventory in the store increased the accuracy to 99%; more complete and specific information was obtained Inventory information; sales increased by 11 percentage points; improved consumer purchasing experience; sales reduction caused by fewer out-of-stocks was reduced by 40%; supply chain efficiency was improved through fully automated replenishment; accuracy of inventory work was improved; Transportation costs are reduced, especially "waiting time"; DC's efficiency is significantly improved.

Currently, Levi's is beginning to apply EPC/UHF RFID technology to its production lines, such as production plants, DCs and stores. In particular, each product and commodity is attached with a unique EPC/UHF RFID tag to achieve efficient operations and traceability from the production link of the supply chain to the store sales link.
