Smarter data center management through RFID digital devices

IT manufacturers are leveraging RFID tracking capabilities to digitize their equipment and create advanced automation capabilities for data center management.

Companies such as Intel, Cisco, Twitter and Huawei are at the forefront of replacing manual IT Asset MANAGEMENT methods such as barcoding with RFID-enabled devices. They rely on industrial RFID experts to automate their IT asset management (ITAM) program.

Data center automation is becoming critical in delivering service quality, security and compliance for high-performance operations.

Strong demand is driving the adoption of automated operations in data centers, and RFID is a key technology in terms of infrastructure and operating procedures.

Automation means cost savings and increased profit margins: cloud providers have been leading the way here, while data center providers are moving toward a hardware-as-a-service model, in which they manage equipment on behalf of customers.

Data centers range in size from thousands of IT assets to hundreds of thousands, and operational challenges grow exponentially. Given time and labor constraints, manual IT asset inventory using barcodes is simply not the best option. Additionally, the manual collection and entry of information is plagued by human error, resulting in inaccurate data.

Customer data center

Data center management uses RFID to help automate internal processes, such as coordinating incoming equipment, provisioning and deployment. The technical support team uses data from the RFID system to quickly track and identify equipment in need of maintenance service, upgrades, and retirement, allowing the data center to proactively manage power and heat. At the end of the equipment life cycle, the RFID system will simplify accounting for the hardware and the data it contains, ensuring seamless compliance in asset reporting and data protection.

First, RFID-enabled data center management shows significant advantages in IT asset lifecycle management, and second, it also opens the door to new applications for IT manufacturers. Many data center vendors are now moving to a hardware-as-a-service model, where they manage their own equipment on behalf of their customers.

We have been cooperating with Chinese and overseas IT manufacturers to develop a full range of RFID electronic label products for IT assets. Whether you need to track mobile devices, computers, removable storage devices, servers, routers, network cards, or other IT assets, there are electronic tags that meet industry standards and are designed specifically for this purpose. Whether used on metal, non-metal, or metal-embedded IT assets, RFID tags are designed to provide optimal performance. Small form factor fits blade servers, rack locations and mobile devices. More options are available for memory, materials and mounting options.
