RFID helps the oil and gas industry realize valve tracking automation

In the past few years, the use of RFID to track various valves has quietly emerged in the oil and gas development industry. As this technology continues to develop and mature, the application scope of RFID in the oil and gas industry continues to expand, and the usage rate increases year by year.

The most common way for the oil and gas industry to adopt RFID technology is to install RFID tags on various Assets. Valve magazine once reported on the advantages of RFID in the oil and gas industry. Installing read-write devices at warehouse and cargo yard Access Control can record in real time the various assets entering and exiting the warehouse every day. The biggest benefit of RFID technology is that it helps oil and gas developers and valve manufacturers reduce the tedious text work of recording asset usage, maintenance and inspections.

International oil giant Anadarko is using Protech Sales’ Ontrase solution to automate the management of various valve assets. This solution installs the Ontrase system and uses idsTAG's software and ifast's high-strength RFID tags to provide customers with a series of automated management functions from point-to-point valve installation, use, maintenance, and lubrication.

For automated tracking of valves, the reading and writing distance is an important consideration. Anadarko project manager Carol Arnim said that if the reading and writing distance of the tag is long enough, it can help staff read and write asset information more conveniently during equipment maintenance.

Recently, ifast is working with our partners to develop an RFID tag for valves that replaces the existing steel nameplate. This product will be better than the existing valve RFID installation method.

In addition to general ASSET MANAGEMENT, RFID can also be very effective in improving the efficiency of remote asset MRO. RFID tags with large-capacity memory (32k) allow users to repeatedly add, rewrite or edit asset information. The tag data format complies with the industry-opened ISO/IEC 18000-6C (EPCglobal Gen2) guidelines and does not allow remote network access. Large-capacity tags will provide the function of storing and recording information in some remote working environments where it is inconvenient to obtain information.
