Maria&Donato uses NFC to identify product authenticity

Handmade leather goods manufacturer MARIA&DONATO integrated Thinfilm's NFC RFID tags into its handbag products to combat the increasing number of counterfeiting and fraud in the luxury goods market. The special RFID tag can be read by smartphones, allowing consumers to learn more about the brand and products, or purchase limited edition handbags online.

This special RFID tag can detect the "factory sealed" and "open" status of the product and can be read by an NFC mobile phone. The NFC chip built into the RFID tag is manufactured using a printing process.

These labels were originally designed for use on bottles to verify the contents of the bottle or to alert that the seal has been opened. This special RFID tag supports reading using a 13.56MHz HF fixed or handheld NFC RFID Reader. The tag has 128-bit read-only memory and is compatible with the ISO 14443 Class A RFID standard.

The label supports commonly used data structures, such as 96-bit GS1 EPC, is less than 300 microns thick, and can be integrated into the product's packaging or label.

Maria&Donato product development manager Javier Villaverde said: "We believe that each Maria&Donato handbag is a work of art, so product authenticity authentication is an important part of the customer experience. This special RFID tag technology can help us improve the anti-counterfeiting effect and bring our Provides customers with the satisfaction they expect.”

Starting from July 24, 2016, distributors will begin to provide handbags with built-in special RFID tags, and Maria&Donato will also be officially exhibited at Pure London. Consumers can make online reservations in the coming days.
