Implementing construction site personnel management using RFID technology

RFID technology is a wireless communication technology that can realize the identification and data exchange of objects through electromagnetic waves. RFID technology is widely used in the management of construction workers on construction sites, which can improve management efficiency and safety levels.

The main functions of RFID technology in the management of construction workers on construction sites are:

Personnel entry and exit management: By installing RFID electronic tags on construction workers' safety helmets or clothes, the identity identification and entry and exit control of personnel in the construction site operation area can be realized. RFID Readers can be installed at entrances and exits or on mobile devices to record the entry and exit time, location and status of each person in real time, and synchronize data with the background database. This can prevent irrelevant personnel from entering the construction site and ensure that those who should leave the site can exit in a timely, safe and normal manner.

Personnel attendance management: The attendance system based on RFID technology can use ultra-high frequency (UHF) microwave signals to achieve long-distance reading of electronic tags. In this way, construction workers do not need to actively swipe cards or scan codes, and will not be affected by environmental factors. Attendance operations can be completed accurately and quickly, and problems such as attendance cheating are avoided.

Personnel positioning management: By deploying multiple RFID readers and antennas at the construction site, a positioning network with wide coverage and high positioning accuracy is formed. By triangulating the signal emitted by each electronic tag or calculating based on the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) algorithm, the real-time location information of each construction worker can be obtained and displayed on the background monitoring platform. This can easily monitor the distribution and density of people in each construction area, detect abnormal situations in a timely manner, and quickly find missing or distressed personnel.

In summary, RFID technology plays an important role and advantage in the management of construction workers on construction sites, which can improve management efficiency and safety levels, and reduce costs and risks. With the continuous development and improvement of RFID technology, more application scenarios and innovative solutions will appear in the future.

A foreign case is the renovation project of the New York City Hall in the United States. The project uses an attendance system based on UHF RFID technology, providing each construction worker with an electronic tag card with a unique number and photo, and setting up readers and cameras at the entrances and exits. When construction workers enter or leave the site, the reader will automatically scan the electronic tag card hanging in their hand or chest and compare it with the photos taken by the camera to confirm identity and attendance time. These data will be uploaded to the backend management system in real time for project managers and supervision units to view and analyze. In this way, attendance cheating such as impersonation, repeated card swiping, and missing card swiping can be effectively prevented, and the safety awareness and sense of responsibility of construction workers can also be improved.
