Common chips in RFID HF range

The RFID chip is the main component of the electronic tag and is the core of the entire RFID system. The basic structure of the tag chip generally includes modules such as RF front-end, analog front-end, digital baseband and memory unit. The main frequency bands involved in RFID chips are 125KHz, 13.56MHz, 433MHz, 860-960MHz, 2.45GHz and other frequency bands, among which 13.56MHz high frequency and 860-960MHz ultra high frequency are the mainstream, so today I will talk with you about 13.56MHz high frequency Mainstream chips in the market.

From the standard protocol, 13.56MHz high frequency is mainly divided into two protocols: ISO15693 and ISO14443. The difference between the two is simply that 14443 is near-field coupling, 15693 is far-field coupling, 14443 has encryption function, and 15693 has good penetration. Strong anti-interference ability. Of course, now some 15693 chips have also added some encryption functions to expand their application range. For example, Huada Semiconductor 15693 has added National Secret SM7. ISO14443 is also divided into two types, 14443A and 14443B. 14443B is more private and is currently mainly used in the financial field, including ID Cards and bank cards.

When it comes to 13.56MHz high-frequency chips and manufacturers, we have to mention the three words NXP. NXP's 13.56MHz high-frequency chip has an unshakable global market position and is the promoter of RFID chip research and development and application. Let's take the NXP series chips as the main line to introduce different types of chips and application scenarios. At present, it includes three major sections: Mifare series, NTAG series and ICODE series!

Mifare series

MIFARE products are fully compliant with ISO/IEC 14443 standards and can meet NFC Forum Type 4 tag standards. Including Classic, DESFire, Plus, Ultralight, SAM and other series, among them, S50, S70 and MIFARE Ultralight are commonly used, suitable for low-cost, high-flow applications, such as: public transportation, membership cards and event tickets, MIFARE? Ultralight series The subdivided products include 3 members MIFARE Ultralight C, MIFARE Ultralight EV1, MIFARE Ultralight Nano.

MIFARE Ultralight C

MIFARE Ultralight C adopts 3DES encryption standard for chip authentication and data access. Tickets, coupons or labels based on NXP Mifare Ultralight C can be used as one-way bus tickets, event tickets or low-cost loyalty cards.

MIFARE Ultralight EV1

MIFARE Ultralight EV1 is the next generation smart card IC for simple-purpose applications using paper tickets. NXP has a built-in "origin check" feature that provides effective clone protection and prevents the use of counterfeit tickets. The mechanical and electrical characteristics of MIFARE Ultralight EV1 meet the requirements of inlay and paper ticket manufacturers. The IC has two memory options: 48 bytes and 128 bytes.

MIFARE Ultralight Nano

MIFARE Ultralight Nano is a new generation smart paper ticket IC of MIFARE Ultralight series. The innovative contactless technology is suitable for single-use applications and aims to replace magnetic stripes, barcodes/QR codes and standard paper-printed tickets.

NTAG series

NXP's NTAG family is compliant with NFC Forum Tag Type 2 and ISO/IEC14443 Type A specifications, ensuring universal interoperability with NFC devices such as mobile phones, tablets and stationary readers. NTAG series provide different storage capacities and special functions, users can choose cost-effective capacity and functions for specific applications. The current products include NTAG for smart inlays and labels and NTAG for smart electronic devices.

NFC

NTAG for Smart Inlays and Labels (NTAG21x Series)

NTAG21x passive power IC solutions work seamlessly with NXP's NFC reader ICs, which are found in more than 90% of NFC-equipped mobile phone models. Featuring industry-best RF performance, a wide range of memory sizes and intelligent built-in features - ready for the next generation of inlays and labels. At present, the commonly used NTAG21x series products are subdivided into five categories: NTAG210, NTAG212, NTAG213, NTAG215, and NTAG216.

NTAG for Intelligent Electronic Devices (NTAG I2C and NTAG21xF Family)

NTAG I2C is a member of NXP's NTAG family that provides both contactless and contact interfaces. In addition to an NFC Forum compliant passive contactless interface, the IC also features an I2C contact interface to communicate with the control. With additional externally powered SRAM mapped to the memory, fast data transfers between the RF and I2C interface and vice versa are possible without the write cycle limitations of EEPROM memory. In addition, NTAG I2C products can also power external (low power consumption) devices (such as microcontrollers) through the embedded energy harvesting circuit. The NTAG21xF products share the functionality of the NTAG21x products, but also offer presence detection and sleep mode, and small form factor packages especially focused on electronic applications (such as connection switching, Bluetooth simple pairing, Wi-Fi protected setup, device authentication, gaming, etc.). At present, the commonly used NTAG21xF products are subdivided into NTAG213F and NTAG216F.

ICODE series

ICODE is an industry standard high frequency (HF) smart label solution supporting ISO 15693/ISO 18000-3 compliant infrastructure. Currently includes 3 series: ICODE SLIX with new version ICODE SLIX 2, ICODE ILT and new series ICODE DNA offering AES based tag authentication.

ICODE SLIX series

Including ICODE SLIX, ICODE SLIX-S, ICODE SLIX-L and the new version of this series, ICODE SLIX 2, which comply with ISO15693/ ISO18000-3 standards. All system members support the password protection provided for EAS and AFI.

ICODE ILT Series - For high-speed item-level labeling

Including ICODE ILT and ICODE ILT-M. These smart label ICs are chips specially designed for passive smart tags and labels. They are a batch of ICs that comply with ISO18000-3M3/EPC Class-1 HF. NXP ICODE ILT products support fast and reliable item identification. The same is true in groups and with fast conveyor belts.

ICODE DNA

This chip is a new product launched by NXP in May 2016. It conforms to the NFC Forum Type 5 tag, has traditional AES encryption authentication, near field communication (NFC) and cloud connection. It also provides cryptographic authentication, ISO/IEC 29167-10 standard label authentication for privacy protection.

NXP is the promoter of RFID chip development and application. Many domestic chip manufacturers use this as a benchmark. On this basis, they imitate and micro-innovate. The overall functions are similar. The main difference lies in the size of the storage capacity and the increase in compatibility. , The cheap price is its great advantage, so I won’t go into details here. Of course, high-frequency chips are also constantly subdividing the market, mainly in terms of chip safety and functionality. For the detection function, Taiwan Ustar added TD function on the basis of 15693, Korea LEGIC used PUF technology in chip physical encryption, Fujitsu used FRAM memory, Xinhongde anti-counterfeiting chip, etc. In short, with the enhancement of everyone's anti-counterfeiting awareness of chips, there will be more and more chips with complex functions. Of course, to ensure the uniformity of chips, anti-transfer of RFID electronic tags is also an indispensable condition.
