A brief analysis of the innovative applications of RFID technology on ships

G3 Boats, owned by Yamaha, improves shipbuilding productivity by deploying RFID

In January 2023, G3 Boats began rolling out RFID technology solutions to increase visibility into its production process, with the goal of gaining transparency from sheet metal processing to final assembly production.

At the baseline ship production facility, RFID Readers automatically track entry and exit from Library-borrowing-machine-touch-query-intelligent-terminal-all-in-one-machine.html target='_blank'>workstations including welding, painting, painting, the start of final assembly, and the end of final assembly. Once the vessel is completed, the documents will be placed in boxes with RFID Antennas to complete the order and update in the ERP system; at the pontoon production factory, RFID reader antennas are installed below the workstations to read the RFID tags of each vessel , as the File arrives and tracks how long it stays at each workstation. As vessels move between production facilities or complete production and move to outdoor yards, they pass through the dock portal where the tags are read again.

Although the deployment of phased technologies is still ongoing, the latest solution includes the use of RFID technology in the production process to better control the batching process of raw materials for ship production.

Ship supervision application based on RFID technology

The safety issues of inland waterway transportation have always attracted much attention, especially in terms of ship supervision. Due to the lack of effective supervision means and technical support, ship traffic accidents can easily occur, and there are great safety and pollution risks.

The application of RFID technology in the field of inland river ship supervision helps to establish a smarter and more reliable safety management system, which can improve the efficiency and safety of ship supervision and promote the development of inland river shipping.

Since ship supervision operations are high-risk operations, in order to avoid unnecessary interference to operating personnel and normal operating procedures during the inspection, the maritime department conducts clearance supervision and inspections mainly in the form of pre- and post-inspections, with data and record inspections as the basis. Mainly, inquiry and technical inspection are supplemented.

Through the analysis of the difficulties in ship supervision, it can be mainly divided into three elements: objects, people and the environment. Among them, "things" mainly refer to the equipment used in the tank cleaning process as well as the sludge and garbage generated, and "people" mainly include operators (including tank cleaning operators, oxygen and explosion testers, etc.) and the ship. "Environment" can be understood as the operating environment, operating time and other factors that will affect the operation.

In terms of item management, the intelligent management system based on RFID technology can replace manual record management and conveniently and accurately record the equipment parameters, maintenance management status and even usage status of relevant equipment. It can also be integrated into key equipment for hazardous waste transfer and disposal. and channels, carry out tracking data collection throughout the entire process to achieve closed-loop management of dangerous goods disposal, which not only effectively reduces labor costs, but also improves the efficiency and accuracy of supervision and reduces the risk of pollution in intermediate links.

In terms of personnel supervision, RFID technology can play a greater role in personnel identification, qualifications, and information record changes. Through RFID reading and writing equipment, the training and qualifications information of each worker can be recorded and read in a timely and accurate manner. Through the cooperative operation of RFID system software and RFID readers, workers can be managed conveniently and timely.

In terms of environmental supervision, RFID electronic tags can also be attached to key areas of operations to carry information such as relevant risks, facility operation status, location, etc., and can also be associated with operating equipment information there to achieve real-time and accurate data collection.

Based on RFID technology, this information is marked, tracked, collected and transmitted to computers or smart mobile terminals and other network terminals for analysis and management. Finally, the processed information is distributed to various terminals, which can form a complete information sharing and dynamic supervision " The "Internet of Things" supervision and management platform achieves the purpose of real-time monitoring of risk factors in shipyards and shipyard operations, timely discovery of safety hazards, timely warning and prevention of accidents.

With the continuous development of IoT technology, ship dangerous goods monitoring systems based on RFID and other IoT technologies will usher in more development opportunities and challenges. In the future, RFID systems will be more intelligent, automated and visual, providing more comprehensive and efficient support for safe ship operations.
