RFID technology can realize the information collection of express packaging and recyclable transfer bags

This year, the State Post Bureau proposed the "9792" project, that is, by the end of this year, it will strive to achieve a "slimming tape" packaging ratio of 90%, an e-commerce express no longer secondary packaging rate of 70%, and a recycling transfer bag utilization rate of 90%. 20,000 postal express outlets with standard packaging waste recycling devices.

The latest data from the State Post Bureau shows that on the day of "Double Eleven" this year, postal and express delivery companies across the country handled a total of 675 million express items, a year-on-year increase of 26.16%, setting a record high. As this year’s promotion has been brought forward to November 1, the number of inquiries for “Express 100” packages has also increased by 20% compared with usual times, reaching a peak of 400 million times per day. It is estimated that during the entire promotion period, the cumulative number of inquiries may reach nearly 6 billion times , it can be seen that the ability of the express delivery industry to cope with the peak has been significantly enhanced, and at the same time it proves the momentum of economic recovery. According to the forecast of the State Post Bureau, the express business volume in my country will exceed 80 billion pieces this year, and more and more people will benefit from the convenience brought by the development of the express industry.

The rapid growth in the number of express delivery has also brought fire to the packaging industry. The packaging materials involved in express packaging include cartons, plastic bags, fillers and transparent tapes. However, the rapid growth of express delivery has also brought a great burden to the environment. Statistics show that my country's express delivery industry consumes more than 9 million tons of paper waste and about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste every year, showing a rapid growth trend.

It is understood that currently some logistics companies have achieved full coverage of recycling devices. Taking ZTO Express as an example, the current usage rate of ZTO Express’s electronic face sheets has reached 99.9%, and the usage of one-way orders has reached more than 80% of the entire network, and it is still growing steadily. At the same time, the utilization rate of the newly purchased "slimming tape" below 45mm has also reached 100%. The company also vigorously promotes the use of recyclable transfer bags and develops an environmental protection bag identification system. Up to now, more than 2.5 million recyclable transfer bags with RFID electronic tags have been put into use in the whole network of ZTO Express. At present, Shanghai and Guangzhou have achieved 100% coverage of recyclable transfer bags. It is expected to achieve full coverage of recyclable transfer bags on the entire network by the end of this year .

"I used to use woven bags at 50 cents each, but they could only be used once. Now the recyclable transfer bags can be used for one year. Calculated, the cost of a single use is only more than 10 cents, and the loading capacity of each bag has increased by 30 %." The person in charge of ZTO Express in a certain city said that the use of recycled bags not only helps the development of environmental protection work, but also reduces the operating costs of outlets.

In JD Logistics, there is also high technology in the recyclable packaging bags. According to reports, JD.com currently adopts the "recyclable transfer bag + RFID" scheme to promote the use of recyclable transfer bags. "RFID is to place an electronic tag in the transfer bag, which has the functions of positioning and tracking. It can not only track the location of the package, but also count the number of times the packaging bag is used. Although the cost of the transfer bag we used in the past is low, it is expensive every time. Every time it needs to be sealed, the damage is large, and it can only be used once. The current transfer bag can be recycled more than 100 times, which is twice the standard proposed in the "Specifications." The relevant person in charge of JD Logistics told reporters.

In addition, in the transshipment center, logistics companies save express resources by using recyclable environmental protection bags and other methods. The relevant person in charge of Best World told reporters that starting from April 2019, the major transshipment centers of Best World have promoted the use of recyclable bags. As of the end of December 2019, sites in East China, North China, Central China and South China have all promoted the use of environmentally friendly bags, and 5 million bags have been put into use across the network.

"The collection bag has the functions of RFID tag identification and route tracking. Its group-sensing RFID technology can also realize the collection of information such as package transfer, loss, area flow, and audit. Compared with traditional woven bags that can only be used twice at most, The actual reusability can reach more than 40 times, which can effectively improve the efficiency of the transfer center’s entry and exit, while reducing waste and pollution.” The person in charge said.

Recyclability is an important change in express packaging. The reporter learned from Suning Logistics that there are currently 400 recyclable transfer bags with a size of 1 meter x 1 meter in a warehouse in Suning, with an average daily usage of 150 bags and a daily turnover rate of 37.5%. There are 1,900 circulation transfer boxes dedicated to 3C digital products, and the current average daily usage is 300, with a daily turnover rate of 16%. The relevant person in charge of Yunda Express said that the company began to promote the use of recyclable bags in June, and the current promotion rate has reached 70%.

The green, reduced and recyclable packaging of express delivery has begun to show results. However, the recycling of express packaging has not been as smooth as expected. For example, due to the limited space of some express delivery points, there is no space for recycling boxes; although the volume of express delivery in some communities is large, consumers are accustomed to taking the express home and then dismantling it, so the recycling box does not play a practical role; there are also many packaging cartons due to the damage rate High, the probability of recycling is very low.

The green governance of the express delivery industry must adhere to treating both symptoms and root causes, and promote comprehensive governance. It is necessary to take the implementation of the express packaging green governance work ledger as the starting point to accelerate the application of green packaging; to establish and improve a system of regulations, standards and policies that are compatible with the green concept as a guarantee, and to build a long-term mechanism for green governance; Led by scientific and technological innovation, we will continue to strengthen the endogenous power of green governance.
