Application of identification and tracking of seed packaging bags based on UHF RFID technology

It is understood that seed producer KWS uses UHF RFID technology to identify and track seed packaging bags in the supply chain and production chain. Currently, the solution is implemented at 18 locations in Germany, France, Serbia, Ukraine and Slovakia, including 10 production sites and 7 logistics sites.

German KWS started sugar beet breeding in 1856, and is now the world's largest sugar beet seed supplier and one of the three major corn seed suppliers. Its business scope covers more than 70 countries around the world. Its seed business activities have 4 major sectors, namely Corn, sugar beets, grains and corporate business.

The goal of this solution is to be able to obtain information on all seed packaging bags in batches and to be able to track and obtain pallet information and track pallets during transportation. At the same time, the application of UHF RFID technology must be integrated into the existing process and can continue to operate to avoid additional expenditures in production and logistics.

This solution mainly realizes the transparency of the supply chain, the automatic identification of seed packaging bags and the tracking of each seed packaging bag. The specific process mainly includes the following steps:

1. First of all, attach a UHF RFID tag to each seed packaging bag, and install a UHF reader on the conveyor production line. When each seed packaging bag passes through the conveyor, the information on the RFID tag is read and uploaded to the RFID in the middleware.

2. After the RFID middleware acquires the data, it creates a virtual tray for counting the seed packaging bags.

3. At the end of the production line, RFID tags are attached to the containers. At this point, the RFID middleware combines all the product and container information with that of the seed bags on the pallet. In this way, the identity information of the whole process of the seed packaging bag can be displayed and queried on the system.

4. When the logistics company ships the container to the end customer, some of them have to open the container and reassemble the shipment. To ensure new containers and compositions are used with bags, all bags on the pallet must be identified. When the newly assembled pallet passes through multiple UHF RFID Readers and displays, all the information can be recombined, so that logistics tracking can be realized.

Solution advantages:

Obtain the information of seed packaging bags in batches;

A central database can record data from 18 locations;

Traceability of seed bags throughout the supply chain;

Save time by quickly intervening and troubleshooting in specific productions.

The data in this solution is all processed through RFID middleware, and all collected RFID tag information and container data are transmitted from 18 locations to the central database in encrypted form, realizing the identification and tracking of seed packaging bags, making the supply chain more transparent.
